Citizens for Funding the United Nations United States Campaign, 1996
Citizens for Funding the United Nations (CFUN) is working to mobilize people within the United States. It is asking citizens across the country to contact Congress and the Clinton Administration with a demand that the US pay what it owes the UN. Founded in February, 1996, CFUN has successfully mobilized a large number of people and educated many more about the UN financial crisis. If thousands of citizens respond, CFUN hopes that policy makers will be forced to change course.
CFUN is a constituent of the International Citizens' Committee on the UN Financial Crisis (CCFC), the sponsor of the international "Call for Action" campaign.
CFUN proposes that US citizens:
Write their Congressional Representative or one of their Senators stating that the US must meet its financial obligation to the UN now. Include a check for $7.00 (roughly the per capita US outlay to the UN in 1994 ) made out to the United Nations. (US House of Representatives, Washington, DC 20515; Senate - 20510). Asking that their check be forwarded immediately to Ms. Susan Mills, Director of the UN Financial Management Office, United Nations, NY 10017.
Ask the Representative or Senator what they are doing to honor the US treaty obligation to pay in full (and without condition) the dues (and arrears) owed the UN. Emphasize that the crisis is severe and that Congressional action must be taken immediately.
Send a letter or postcard to President Clinton, The White House, Washington DC 20500, telling him what they have done and stating that they expect him to act forcefully and immediately to find funds for the UN as a critical matter of national security.
Write letters to their local newspaper.

The International Citizens' Committee would add the following suggestions for US citizen action:
circulate the international "Call for Action" statement and gather signatures call-in to a local or national talk-show
form a local action committee in your town or neighborhood to plan local events such as speak-outs or teach-ins
ask questions at political meetings and rallies during the presidential election process; arrange meeting with other candidates for election/re-election to discuss the issues
get your local, statewide or national organization to pass a resolution
act in other ways that will raise the issue among neighbors and fellow citizens. Use humor, showmanship, conviction, inventiveness, good networking. There are many possibilities.
